Why is my cat sideways, and what is this button to

Im pretty sure it suppose to be flat up against the body






and what is this button, its on the bottom of my driver side dash, by my right knee

Your cat should be flat, but will work just fine the way it is, it was probably removed or possibly replaced and not put in flat for some reason, as for the button, no idea what its for, its not a stock button so you will need to follow the wires and see were it goes.

you could just push it, but that could be a bad idea

or, if you know the person you bought it from, just call and ask

Sometimes the cars were installed vertically like that at the factory. My buddy's '94 pickup was set up like that and when he had the exhaust replaced he had the shop cut and re-weld the cat mounting flanges to sit horizontal.

when my buddy installed his long tube header, the flange on the end of it was clocked wrong, so the cat bolted up in the same way...

i just dont wanna hang it up on a rock, so can i get a one of a junk yard one, or is it cheaper to cut it, and reweld it.

as ppl have said you could just cut and reweld you cat. and the best advice for the button was already posted, follow the wires.

The button is probably for your alarm system overide. It's a means of turning off your alarm after your key is in the ignition. It's usually preset so that you have to push it a specific # of times to cancel the alarm. All of this assuming you have an alarm, usually aftermarket. That's my guess anyways.
