Who has removed their carpet?

Hey guys I've got a few questions for anyone that has removed the carpet on a 4Runner.
1. Is it noticeably colder in the winter?
2. The plastic trim on the rocker panels holds the carpet in place and also covers your electrical lines going back. If you remove the carpet it seems as though that it wouldn't go back on correctly without some sort of spacer to take place of the carpet.
3. Has anyone used rocker guard instead of products like rhino line to do the interiors.

Thanks for any help.
And seeing this is my first post I'll tell you I'm an east coaster from P.E.I. currently driving an 88 SR5 4Runner with a 4cyl 88 4Runner that I'm working on. I just sold my 93 4cyl 4x4 pickup last year so that I could buy the SR5. If anyone is anywhere's close and is interested in the SR5, I'll probably be selling it sometime between now and November. Thanks Ryan

My buddy did this to his 1st gen truck and the noise was a killer. He was running M/Ts and on the freeway it was unbearable after 10 or 15 minutes. I have heard a lot of good things about the Dynamat Xtreme sound deadening material they sell at Summit and putting vinyl mats over it so you don’t have to worry about wet carpet while still keeping the noise in check.

I didnt really notice that much noise in my 3rd gen when I pulled the carpet....

The tar coating on the floor deadens quite a bit of noise though

No carpet in mine, was louder though. Put down bigger floormats and it seemed to work okay.

No carpet with floormats. Not much noise difference with or without.

Pulled mine out this spring after finding a 3 inch rust hole near the drivers side pinch weld.... The carpet was soaked all the way to the transmission hump and seat rail. So I decided it was time to tear it out, I am debating if I want to cut my trans hump and lift my drive train before I herculine the floor.

I did not notice any difference in noise, but like Dirtoyboy said, the tar coating probably helps quite a bit.

I found a decent size hole in my floorboards too from water leaking in between the firewall and windshield.....probably not a bad idea (even if you keep the carpet) to pull it up and see what's going on under there...

I removed mine about 6 months ago when I put my bucket seats in.

The old carpet smelled like swamp ass and I was happy to see it go.

I put down some Herculiner on the floor and it's been great. I can pull the rubber drain plugs and hose it out now when it gets really muddy.

I've put on a second coat since this pic was taken.

i took the carpet out of my truck and its super loud or maybe its the 3 in exhaust with no cat and running 37 toyos idk. i am putting in the one sided foil insulation you can get from lowes or home depot and then i am going to rhino line over the top of that. but the entire truck is getting rhino lined. its too cold up here in oregon to have no carpet.

holy cow batman old thread oh well.

I took mine out. It was disgusting from the PO. It might have got louder, but it's so damn loud with the mud T/A's that it doesn't really matter anymore. Those plastic wire looms stay right where they're at. I haven't had any problems with mine. I just tightened the molding down around it.

You use a gallon or a small container?

or you could go with the vinyl stuff the old ones had if you want to rip your old carpent out. It's got insulation on the bottom of it for sound/cold. I think Rockauto.com sells it but i'm not sure for what years/models

I have rubberized undercoat for carpet right now. The noise is not too bad, but I'm going to reinstall the carpet.

If your carpet is wet, you may have bigger problems than noise. Mine was wet when I pulled it because the windshield frame had holes rusted thru it underneath the trim.
