I get this whirring noise coming from the transmission area whenever the clutch pedal is NOT pushed in, whether I'm driving or sitting in neutral. I have read it could be the throw-out bearing, but have also read contradicting info. That it whirs (makes noise, rattles, whatever) when the pedal is in and that it makes noise when the clutch pedal is out. So which is it..?

Heres what it sounds like. The noise is most obvious whirring sound in the clip and when you can't hear the noise is when I push in the clutch pedal:

Heres the kicker. I crawled under my truck yesterday to listen to it and the noise is more prevalent right below the t-case.

Although I can't answer the debate about whether it's the TO bearing when the pedal is in or out I can tell you that mine did the same thing when the pedal wasn't pushed and I replaced the clutch, plate, TO bearing and pilot bearing and the noise was gone.

The throwout bearing is not moving when the clutch pedal in not pushed in. When you push the clutch the throwout bearing is riding on the fingers thus you would hear it if it was bad. When the clutch is not pushed in the the crankshaft is turning the input shaft and all the bearings in the trans. The input is usually the one that goes. Sounds like input bearing to me.

Could it be like an output bearing? because like I said, its most prevalent under/around the t-case...

Probably not but could be. Most Toy manuals the input bearings go. Does the whirrring go away in 4th gear?

I dont know. I havent tried that yet. Also, my truck is pretty loud at higher speeds so I probably couldnt hear it. I'll check it out later.

if it goes away in 4th then it is more then likely the input bearing. If not then you will have to look to output or transfer case input/output bearings
