where is this check connector ?

working on my deceased younger brothers 86 22re truck before passing it on to my older brother, cant seem to find this connector that a guy is supposed to jumper before setting timing , there is a connector in the vicinity mentioned but doesnt seem to make any difference when jumped , there are several unused connectors on drivers side inner fender , any direction would be appreciated,

under the hood rectangle box 2"X1" plastic mounted on the side of fuse / relay box about a foot behind the battery, could be black, could be tan. flips up from the front I believe.. doing timing??
J

The little tan box behind the Interstate battery top of picture, 2 pins inside to be shorted to set timing

85 and 86 have a different jumper port. Here is the different jumpers for these trucks.

Copied...

How to get Check Engine Codes. I just put this up for others. Applies to 87 and up. 86 and older is the bottom picture.

The Diagnostic port for the 85-86 is on the Drivers side inner fender and is nothing the same as the 87 and up. Here is T1 and E1 jumped. The codes and engine flashes are the same as the rest of the trucks on the dash.

Here is how you do a Fuel Pump Bypass on the 85/86.
Jumper wire the Yellow Plug on Drivers side. ( Jumper wire should be in both contacts for testing, I just didnt have it in for picture purposes and mostly a referece for me at a later time.)

Fp +B Fuel Pump Test for 87 and newer. Use a paper clip for better results.

diagnostic port

My 91 looks exactly like that, loaded with dielectric grease and everything, but no rusted fender well, no rust to speak of as it's a San Diego truck. Is all that red the mud I saw everywhere as I crossed the middle area of the US, Missouri, I-44 area just before 9/11??

We have red mud everywhere. I drive I 44 everyday and if you get off of it and on the side roads it is easily found. It can be a pain to get off of trucks as it gets gummy.
