where to buy motor???
Guys,I got the bad news from my mechanic today. He diagnosed my 89 22re with 231k miles as having bad valves as well as a camshaft bearing going bad.He suggests getting rid of my truck and getting something newer before it leaves me on the side of the road, but i disagree. So my question is were can I get a motor at a reasonable price.I have been told I can order one from either advance auto or auto zone.I am gonna go online and check it out after I send this. Please advise. As my backup vehicle is a 73 ss 350 wich loves gas and whos' power steering started going out today. What a day I am having.

I know nothing about their reputation, or have had any experience with them...just throwing that out there to add to your search choices. Good luck. Hell, best thing to come out of it though, is that you'll have a great running truck when it's all done with. There's always a bright side. Sorry to hear the news.

That sounds kind of bunk to me, any good mechanic should be able to pull that head, do a headgasket, get the head rebuilt (or machined and do it themselves) and put it back together in good fashion. If they are a decent mechanic they'll do that and tell you to get a timing chain set. I'm not saying I can do much of that type of work but I'm not a mechanic
A few people on a local 4x4 board have had good luck with this company in Colorado Springs. They have a pretty good warranty and use quality parts.
