This is why we make sure nuts/bolts are tight.

Okay, last night I got a free set of jeep wheels. The rears fit but the front didn't because of the hub. Anyway, so I put my 27" swampers on the front and put the jeep wheels and tires on the back. I tightened them last night, but did not torque them. Big mistake. I get about 3/4 way to my hunting spot and can hear my wheel rattling around. Some jackass stole my lug wrench so I had to tighten them by hand. I went hunting and on my way back about every mile I would get out and tighten the lug nuts. So, I was doing about 40mph and notice a couple lugs fly off...literally! I let off the gas and brake smoothly, then I feel a big drop and see my tire flying past me. At this time I am doing about 20mph and come to a dead stop where my drum is also off.

I only had my phone at the time so here are two crappy pics. But the damage is incredible. Somehow it damaged the side of my bed close to the top. I'm thinking about buying a fiberglass bed though. lol.

So, make sure to TORQUE your lugs. I thought tightening them for a week would be fine but it wasn't. And I payed the price.

VW used to put right hand threaded lug bolts on one side and left hand threaded lug bolts on the other side because the theory was that the bolts would tend to tighten when the wheel went a certain way...
...
... any you just proved that theory wrong.

AHHH, I'M HAVING FLASH-BACKS!!!

at least my drum stayed on; that kept the mechanical damage from happening, but as you can see I aquired some body damage, and it bent my ment-condition chrome bumper up a little and cracked the plating

at least your ok man!

it's true isn't it... watching your own tire roll by you will put a feeling in your gut that nothing else can match...

wow...

What will the next crazy/death-defying/perilous story be?

Pull ye 'ole noggin out of ye 'ole arse every now and then and you might be better off... And I mean that in the nicest way possible. Did you find the wheel or did it vanish into one of those fields?
