I'm sure this has been covered somewhere--I have searched--but have not found the answer to my specific question. I need to repack the front wheel bearings on the front of my 1989 IFS 4Runner. Is there a way to move around the caliper to get the hub/rotor off without removing the brakeline? I want to avoid bleeding the brakes at this time. Thanks for your help!

There's a clip on the bracket wher metal line meets rubber, if you pull that clip...it gives you just enough room to move the caliper, and TIE it out of the way.

yes. if you can get the caliper off the knuckle and tie it out of the way, then you can do the bearings without bleeding the brakes, but I recommend bleeding anyhow since you might have to compress the pistons in order to get the caliper back on and doing so will force any muck back up the hydraulic lines.

No need to bleed unless opening up a line.
Bleeding isn't so bad if you had to.

Thanks. I know bleeding isn't really that big of a deal, I just thought it would be more expedient to avoid opening the brakelines if not necessary.

What they all said... just unbolt the caliper, unclip the brake line from the (whatever its clipped to) and move it out over the way. The FSM condones this procedure. No need to bleed.

No need to unclip it the flexline should have more than enough play to allow you move it out of the way (that is after you open the fluid resivoir cap and spread the caliper). Use a metal coathanger as a hook to hold the caliper out of the way...
