Dude, look in there and see if the little contacts are pushed in, if so FOR YOUR SAFTEY, Disco your battery and stick a flat head in there and jam them inwards, then your garmin or whatever your trying to plug in should make contact.

Had the same problem with my '90, pulled the "receptacle/well" and saw that there are two wire leads on the back, one of them blown/separated. Wanted to go the easy route, went to a parts store for a generic replacement. Got it home and went to install it, but it didn't fit right. It was a bit smaller than the stock hole and backing, and had no place in the backing that came with it for the small dash light that goes there originally. Decided to return the new one and got some electric solder. Good as new, and even saved a few bucks. Might consider...

you can repair these you know, and it'll make the fix permanent. I did it for a guy once when I worked at Advance Auto Parts. I guy in a Taco said first one plug in stopped working, then the other stopped working; cause he was running a freek'n coffe maker off them but mine went out while using a cheapo air-pump once. You have to remove the whole thing, unscrew the bottom of it, remove a non-conductive washer, and reassymble. That really doesn't tell you much.. it's hard to explain, and it's been a while since I've done it... but it takes the fusable link thingy on the end completely out of it.
if I knew this was so much of a problem as it appears to be, I would have done an in depth, step by step how-to post...
