whats cheaper swap 22re or rebuild?

my 22re has 200,000 miles on it and runs great. but more power would be nice, what would you do. build the 22re or swap engines, i also worry about the miles on my engine, a new head& cam etc sounds tempting but im concerned about doing that with that many miles on it.

I personally am a strong believer in the, "If it ain't broke don't fix it." philosophy. Run it till it dies. Although, if you must it depends on how comfortable you are with everything. The 22re is relatively simple motor. If you rebuild it yourself you will be able to customize a little more. If you go with a longblock from a rebuilder you usually get a warranty. Sunwest Automotive Engines and Oregon Engine Builders are both good companies for long blocks. If you decide to rebuild yourself: lc engineering, Engine Builder and 22re.com are good for ordering parts and rebuild kits. I went with the first and had my longblock rebuilt by a local shop handling the removal, teardown, and reinstallation myself. The benefit was a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. Regardless here is my advice.

1. Find a way to get a hold of a FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL for your truck.
2. Label EVERY signle hose wire sensor and fitting you take off.
3. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES. (I slacked on this and am regretting it.)

All in all it is very do-able. Just learn as much as you can before you start. Either way you are looking at a $2000+ price to get it done right.

Hope I could help.
