What WILL Break?

Concerned Newb Here!

I just bought a 90 4Runner a few weeks back and proceeded to rip my clutch bracket assembly out of my firewall in 2 places while driving down a residential street...

So 2 welds and a bracket later, I ask the following: what else should I expect to happen? FYI its a 3.0L with 160k on it and the VIN says it was born before the head gaskets were problematic.

I would just like a heads-up, basically so I know when I can begin modding it instead of saving up for every $600 repair...

Thanks in advance!

Well, that isn't very common. If you're ripping stuff off of the body, either you are a body builder and incredibly strong, or your truck is rusted so badly that anything and everything could break at any given time.

Other than that, what can break? How do you plan to use your truck? Wheeling? Street? If its just a commuter, then change out the fluids, and save money for when stuff goes wrong

Well, I use my rig pretty hard AND it led a hard, salt exposed life. I bought it with 179k miles and it has like 223k now. Here's what I've had to fix/replace:

Starter (worn out)
Power steering pump (x3) (doesn't get along with front locker)
CV (x4) (2 worn out when I bought it, 2 from wheeling damage)
Rear driveshaft (x2) (wheeling damage)
Rear wheel bearings and axle seals
Steering relay rod (recall and after the recall - I was NOT happy)
Pitman arm
Idler arm (x2 one when I bought it, one 2-3 yrs later call it wheeling damage)
Lower A-arms (rust)
Fenders (wheeling damage)
Doors (rust)
Tailgate (rust)
Mirror (wheeling damage)
Cargo area side glass (wheeling damage)
Shocks (worn out)
Tires
Gas tank (rust)
Fan/shroud/radiator (fan exploded)
Clutch (I had the tcase and tranny out anyways - still had quite a bit of life on it)

Mods:
Armor (bumpers, sliders, skids)
Gears/lockers
Dual tcases (includes having the driveshafts resized)
Springs (fix saggy ass - might call that a repair, not a mod)
Headlight bulbs (thank the Lord you have the "square" headlights)
Rear suspension (DS link and mount were damaged, took opportunity to mod)

Wow - that repair:mod ratio is a bit more off than I thought it would be!

I'd buy another one. I used to live in upstate NY. That salt is ferocious. You can't change a tire without a sledge hammer.

Actually I'm from upstate myself (Poughkeepsie) and Thomas is dead-on! That salt will turn your rig into Swiss cheese in no time...

Truck is from Vegas and Texas so 99% rust free...Toyota dealership hadn't seen anything like that before so it must have been my man-calves lmao

Thanks to TC and axleIke also-I'll pay attention to that steering pump...
