I've been using the Castrol High Mileage oil for quite a while now and have had very good results. It's a part synthetic. This oil change I used a microguard filter cause it was on sale and I figured what the hell? Why not?

What have y'all used, and what do you tend to stay away from?

High Mileage is junk oil. All it does is swell all your engine gaskets (to stop/slow leaks) but only leads to premature gasket failure.

-Note that this study is a little disingenuous on surface area/filter size which he gets hung up on as the YZZD3 filter is a V8 filter and he's comparing it to the V6 filters (for our trucks both 4cyl and v6 the YZZD1 is recommended)... For instance, he should have been looking at the YZZD3 equivalent Purolator PL20195 instead of the YZZD1 equivalent PL10241...

Note that when able, you should upsize your oil filter. So go to V8s that run the YZDD3's and see what recommended filters are for them. A budget option should be the Purolator PL20195.

But yes, search. I think most of us would rather an old thread be brought back from the dead and its wisdom be included than to reinvent the wheel...

Everybody has different opinions about oil, but that website gives the most scientific approach to oil and filter choices that I have seen, and clarifies a lot of common misconceptions. A lot of the major article and forum writers are scientists and chemists that work in the motor oil industry.

Ton of threads on this. I use Delo oil and Wix filters. I like the Delo because it has medium detergent action and I raised using Wix filters. I don't like paying astronomical prices for oil that have formulas that aren't available when my truck was made. I guess I'm just a simple guy and like simple straight forward products.
