I am looking into different bumpers for my truck, and I noticed a lot of them come wit a hoop that sticks 2 ft ahead of it. What is it for?

its to help view your line of approach up a hill or something, and it makes a good chair for when you are working on the engine

Well, really the reason that bumper sticks out so far is to accomodate the winch. The stinger itself serves several purposes:

- keeps the radiator from getting crushed in a rollover
- can help prevent an endo on SWB vehicles
- can serve as a "ramp" to lift the front end onto obstacles
- mollywhomping (search)

can be used as a tow spot also hood protection/ engine protection in a roll over. it has many purposes and can look really good.

I'll take it. I am short (5' 5"), so anything to make it easier to work on would be good. It looks like it would do a good job of keeping the front end intact during a deer hit also (something that happens several times a year where I live).

I think it would also scare the **** out of cars in front of me in traffic. The truck itself seems to scare the people driving around it (found this out when I drove it to my friends work in Folsom the day I bought it). Plus I need a place to mount the Hella 550s I have.

I always just thought it was for hanging a rebel flag from...

99.99% of trucks that have them are for looks only. They don't serve any purpose at ll other than that because most people never run in rocks so big to need them.

And in the jeep vid, it seems to me the idjit would have been better served with his mounted on the back of the truck. I'm surprised he had that much trouble going up that. I guess you get what you pay for.

I was under the impression it was for rollover protection and lifting the front when a rock is too big for your approach angle.

I think it would be good for hitting trash cans and other stuff that ends up in the middle of the road (like deer). I just have to make sure it won't look stupid on a unlifted truck with 31" tires. I originally considered the ARB bumper, but it goes for more than I paid for the truck.
