What sensor is this???

The wire came off of this sensor and now I get no reading on the temperature gauge. How can I fix this or what should I do to replace it. Thanks.

Pull the connector off take it apart replace the pin reattach the wire .

get a used connector with a length of wire attached then splice the new connector in by soldering and heat shrinking

What ever is easier for you.

I don't think that this is the sensor for the temp gauge, so you've likely got another problem as well.
As far as I know, the temp gauge sensor is down between the intake and the head, screwed into the head itself.
Not sure what this sensor in the water outlet neck does, but i'm pretty sure that it is not the gauge sender.

No it is not the sending unit for the temperature gauge.

Jenny knows what it is for as She just broke the housing for the thermostat getting carried away putting the new one in!!

Going by the wire color it looks to be the Water Thermo Switch

That is the fuel pressure up switch, it helps drive the closing of the fuel pressure vsv to cut vacuum to the FPR during a heat soak situation. I believe it closes somewhere around 60 or 120*. This effectively raises the fuel pressure during a hot start.

As I have my fuel pressure up VSV disconnected, I just leave this sensor disconnected as well. Like I said, it is apparently for some kind of heat soak situation (also why the fuel pressure up VSV is there), but a lot of people remove it without issue.

I haven't been able to find a replacement thermo housing at a junkyard with that sensor in it, I think it is only on non-CA vehicles (which mine is non-CA). If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it. If it bugs you (I totally understand if it bugs you ) just go to a junk yard and grab the pigtail. Looks like it's going to be hard to dig into that connector to get a good connection. At least you can rest assured that leaving it disconnected will not affect your engine at all

The gauge sender is located farther back in your photo (buried under those vac hoses) in between the plenum and the valve cover. It is a single contact connector that sticks up in a similar orientation to the one you pointed out.

The water temp sensor is underneath your throttle body, with a green connector. Right next is the cold start injector time switch, with a brown plug.

And you know, honestly, looking at the photo again... I might try digging that connector out. Looks like that black seal could be dragged out carefully, revealing the contact beneath. If you are careful you could probably drill a hole through the black seal and thread a screw in, and pull it out. Then you might be able to release the contact from the connector's body and recrimp/solder the wire to it again. I would recommend crimp w/ adhesive heat shrink. Soldering is generally a no-no for engine stuff because it makes wire brittle and also doesn't conduct as well.

Good luck! I would say dig away, let us know what you find. You've got nothing to lose!
