Do you have a tach, speedo, oil pressure, volt, fuel and water temp gauge, or just a speedo, fuel and water temp gauge? If the previous is right, it's an SR5. Otherwise, it's a base model. A 4runner.

when i type in the vin on my 87 4runner it comes back as an sr5 dlx model. it has features of both. chrom trim under doors and on fenders, chrom grill and head lights, chrom front and rear bumpers, rear heat, leather console lid, adjustable head rest front and back, roll bar cover, it just doesn't have the tach in the dash

OP...It sounds like your 86 is a 4Runner STD(Standard model).

OLTOY..As for your 87, there's no such thing as an SR5 Deluxe. It's either an SR5 Turbo(5 passenger), an SR5(5 passenger or 2 passenger), or a Deluxe(2 passenger).

See the sales brochures found here
http://www.toyotareference.com/4runner/1984-1989

BTW...where are you "entering" these VINs?

In 86 there was:

Model(Grade)

4Runner SR5 Turbo(SRT)
4Runner SR5(SR5)
4Runner Deluxe(DLX)
4Runner(STD)

OLTOY, it's still a DLX it just has the "Upgrade" and "Chrome" packages

Anyway, the trim package is on the door placard in the 89+ models not if or where it's marked on the older ones.

Easy ID for 86's, the rear heater, SR5 has ducts and controls, DLX has ducts only, base has no rear heat.
