What gears do I have and what do I need to run 33's

I have a '92 sr5 v6 5speed ex cab pickup and i know i can run 33x10.5's without a lift so i was wondering if my truck is gonna crawl to speed going downhill with the bigger tires or if my gears can handle it pretty well. i know it is the 3.slow and it already isn't a dragster but i would like to be able to pass on the highway or make it up a damn hill once in a while.

I guess the question is what gearing do i have now (i searched everywhere and can't find it) and will that be enough for 33x10.5's?

4.88's should do the job

thanks, so i have 4.88's. that was the answer i found the most with all my research but i still wasn't for sure. they would be on stock alloys so the rims aren't super heavy either. which probably helps a little.

hmm you should be fine then.

i just went from 30" normal at tires, to 32" bf mudterrains, on a basic metal wheel.
I can already tell the difference.

i'll be going from 31x10.5at's to 33x10.5 at's I do quite a bit of highway so i am gonna stick with the at's. if it gets real sloppy i have chains but i have found bfg at's do pretty well.

if you are running 32x11.5's m/t's with a 22re and no re-gear i think i should be able to run 33's

I am guessing with a 92 you more than likely have 4.30 gears, if you had an auto 4.56. now in 93 from what I understand, the 31 inch tires came with 4.56 with manual and 4.88 with auto, but there are many exceptions to that rule. I have a 92 and it is 3.0 with 5 speed and I had 4.30 gears stock. I put 4.56 on and the feel is much better with 31's, I will be going with 33 BFG's too, I am hoping that doesn't mess up my gearing too bad.
4.88 gears is the way to go with out question, if you decide to re gear. Re gearing will also give you the biggest perceivable power increase you can get with any mod.

On the inside door jam, there is a stamped metal piece that tells you your vin, trim code, axle code, and all that info. And I think the 4x4wire site breaks down the axle code for you, telling you what gears came in axle, ring and pinion, etc.

I have a 87 runner with stock 4:10 gears and a 22re with a 3" body lift and 33x 12.50"s. The motor is fresh with an engnbldr cam which holds rpms well and I can cruise all day long at 75mph with no problems. I am however in southeast texas so the horizon is just about FLAT, but it'll hold its own on bridges and such.

I jacked it up and spun the tires and counted revolutions. I spun the tire two full revolutions instead of one for accuracy, and found out I have 4.56 gearing. 4.88 would be better but i think new gears will come later. I make the 80 mile drive home from college about every two weeks and that is the majority of my driving besides trails on the weekend. I think stock will work well for now. thanks for all the input guys.
