What else should I consider doing to my rear axle? Zuk mod?
This friday is payday! So that means I can finally fix the leaky rear end in my 4cyl. It is leaking gear oil all over my passenger side drums, and the cover is leaking like crazy. Im hoping the inside gears are ok, there was some play in the driveline. But basically I'm going to zip my axles out on my lunch friday and have the machinist at my work press the seals and bearing so I can get stuff done this weekend. My list of parts: seals, bearings (both axles), cover gasket, rear brake shoes, drums ( if needed), correct amount of gear oil(2-3 quarts? what kind are you guys using?).
Some other things I want to do: I want to get the weld on diff cover from trail gear and slap that on, I also want to get some sort of extended diff breather. Last i checked, there was water in my diffs.
If I end up having any money left over, I wanted to do a zuk mod. Im just not sure what kind of coils to get? My leafs are pretty bad and saggy, resting on the overload leaf with about 8 inches between the leaf spring the frame.
I was considering doing spacers up front to gain more lift to fit 35's, what coils could I get to match the bj spacers height?

I have 14 inch, 125 lb springs, match the bj spacers fine. I have no body lift and I could get 33's in there, so with your 3" body lift you should have no probs with 35's.
Btw, I used southwest speed aka "kratter" on ebay. The vendor zuk recommends.
alos, I didn't use a gasket for the diff back into the axle. RTV works just fine.

I'm about to drop in a 5.29 diff myself and was wondering if RTV is all i will need... would a rear axle bearing service kit also be in order? http://www.wabfab.org/Rear-Axles/Rea...ypage.tpl.html

Black RTV on the diff to seal it.
You should be able to run 35's with the set up above underneath your 3" body lift.
Diff breathers are easy from what I've read. Pull the dust cap off the installed breathers, put a piece of hose on there with a hose clamp and run the hose into the engine compartment and secure them. If you want to be crazy cool about it you can even put little filters on the end of the hoses in the engine compartment.

And I blame Junkers in the first place for me having the springs and Bj spacers. Just saying. I would throw 33's under it if I hadn't already swapped in 4.56's. I'll just plan for 265'75's.

How long do you guys think I can get away with not fixing the leaks? The seals, bearings, shoes, and rtv and oil are going to run me like 100 bucks I think.
I definitely plan on doing an aussie rear locker and 529s over the summer.
Might as well do it all at once?

Worst case is that you forget to check the fluid levels and destroy something, best case is that you run for the rest of the time you own it and just add some here and there. Of course if you get out somewhere and blow something you'll wish you'd fixed it.
My advice is to fix the leaks. Soon. The seals and bearings will still be new when you do the re-gear. Fix the leaks and save money for the gears and the locker.

Depends on how bad it leaks. I've known folks to go for months/years with a valve cover gasket/rear main/front main/axle seal/diff leak just because they didn't want to fix it and it was easier to just add a few ounces here and there. I HATE that idea.
Worst case is that you forget to check the fluid levels and destroy something, best case is that you run for the rest of the time you own it and just add some here and there. Of course if you get out somewhere and blow something you'll wish you'd fixed it.
