http://anchorage.craigslist.org/cto/945493432.html It looks super clean. I dont know what he means by air injection system. probably meant fuel. I'll have to call him/her, just want a little input.

Looks like a nice truck. It doesn't look too rusty, does Alaska use road salt? The Yukon uses sand instead and there actually very few rusty cars there compared to Calgary.

The air injection system is part of emissions control.

He does mean air injection, it was part of emissions standards on '88s
Not sure what other years but y '88 has got it. I took it off. Go Idaho.

Matt: No, Alaska, uses gravel/sand as well. There are still a lot of rusty vehicles, but mainly the old ones, like pre-85.
I'll have to look into what the air injection system is then
SR5: I wish. I can't afford two vehicles though. Maybe when I'm older!

'air injection' refers to the PAIR system (pulse air injection reaction) and has been used on all 22r/re since 85 if I remember correctly, replacing the 'smog' pump and diverter valve system that was used on earlier models, and is also used on the 3vze/V6. the only thing that can go wrong with it mechanically is the reed valve assembly under the intake.

if it's carb'd, I have a reed valve from an 88 22R I'll part with. make me a reasonable offer (I have no use for it so it won't take much to twist my arm). And figure shipping from Temecula, California to you.

Awesome. Thanks. I'm pretty sure its EFI. I asked if it was the v6 or 22re, and he said 22re. I'll find out tomorrow though. It didn't seem like he knew a whole lot about Toyotas though.....
I'm researching the PAIR system now and seeing if I can do the repairs myself
edit: I can see the EFI symbol on the trim aft of the door.

you've got efi too, right?
so, look at your engine: the pair system draws air from that other tube from the afm, the small one behind the main throttle body tube, into a resonator / pulsation dampener (the toilet bowl float looking thing under the throttle body). From there air enters the reed valve. Air leaving the reed valve goes around the back of the engine into the stainless steel manifold that bolts to the back of the exhaust manifold.
Basically, exhaust pulses create negative pressure in that stainless manifold, sucking air through the reed valve and into the exhaust. If the reed valve malfunctions (like I said it's the only thing that can break 'mechanically speaking'), it won't be able to cut of pulses properly and will result in no air being added to the exhaust, giving the catalytic converter a hard time doing its job.

I was joking. You are right, Palins jaw, combine with Clinton's voice would be more manly than Bruce Willis.

Besides, Palins too tired from screwing the environment to join you in the back of the 4Runner.

I just did a quick search on here and basically read what you just said Plus I found some diagrams. Those always help me understand things better. Thanks Abe

If I may be serious for a second, how a thinking human being could defend abstinence-only sex ed after her very own teenaged daughter became accidently pregnant is beyond me.
