what is the diff between zerk fitting u-joint and the self sealed type. which is the better ?
is one better for dry climit and one better for wet climits
does one type last longer, they both are needler bearings?

The greseable ones will usually last longer as you can maintain them with new grease every so often, the sealed ones tend to dry up when the seals go bad and dirt gets in..

Both use needle bearings inside, the only real difference is the zerk fitting and the ability to grease them.

My vote is for the greaseable ones

I have had the opposite experiance with u-joints. The sealed ones tend to last a little longer, but I use greasable. Its not like they are that expensive or hard to change...

with all due respect this is not 86-95 toyota specific and applies to ALL u-joints regardless of vehicle or year.
we're surprised a moderator hasn't moved this to some off topic or newb tech section considering even more relevant posts have been moved.

I guess I'll opine even if this does get moved.

I have had no trouble going well over 200,000mi on quality solid u-joints. That said, this part of CA is known as the "high desert," so water contamination is not an issue with normal driving. I have heard many claims that the solids are stronger too, so I see no reason not to use them.
