What could cause an ECU to fail?

Some of you may remember that a few years ago, I was dealing with a stumble in my 4Runner where the engine would momentarily 'shut off' flash the Check Engine indicator, and then literally turn back on. I spent a bunch of time and effort trying to get this issue fixed.

Long story short, the problem was that the ECU had gone bad.

Well, the stumble has come back, albeit, not quite as pronounced as the last time, but it's done it twice now...

Anybody have a clue as to what could cause the ECU to fail?
I think it's the injector driver in the ECU thats going bad (which is what happened with the last ECU). which leads me to believe that maybe I don't have a very good ground between the engine and the frame or perhaps the injectors are too high or too low of resistance...

Check the solenoid resistor, it gets its power from either the main relay or ignition switch (i can`t remember wich right now) and it drops the voltage going to the injectors, if it goes bad it might cause the problems your having. The one on my 4Runner went bad and it wouldn`t start, i don`t know if its possible to go bad and send to much voltage through the injectors, but ive seen stranger things happen.

so, you think it's the injector driver circuit?

anyone ever suggest you're using the wrong ECU for the type of injector... or rather you're using the wrong injector for the ECU?

google "peak-and-hold saturated injector driver"
