Weird squeal at startup..

Well, its starting to bother me now.. heres the run down
Nothing made noise besides my power steering when it was cold before i did my timing chain.
*after* i did my timing chain, i put a new alternator v belt in that i had..
now, at startup for the last couple months ive been getting this weird squeal..
sounds like a belt, but.. how can i test/verify that the belt is no good?
Could it be a alternator bearing? some type of bearing?

its just kinda embarrassing this squeal sound at startup and everyone looks at me...
anyone point me into some type of direction would be awesome..

Sounds like a loose belt. Make sure you dont have too much play in either the power steering belt or the alternator belt.

Probably your belt since you changed it. But do this just for fun. Next time you start the truck, push the clutch. If the sound changes or goes away.. Well you now know where it is around.

But most likly your belt

A little late, but if you spray each belt with WD40 while it's running, you'll find out which one it is. My power steering belt squealed like crazy for a while.

Check your water pump for leaks. I have the same squeal and i couldnt figure out what was making it. I was doing the alternator and noticed my pump weeping right on the crank pully. So at startup it would squeal for a second. Pisser is the water pump is brand new

If you want to figure out which one it is, I'd suggest not spraying the crank pulley.

PS: spray the pulley at the powersteering pump...
alternator: spray the alternator pulley
A/C: spray the A/C pulley

I don't know if you want to use WD40.... that may silence it but could cause some slippage. Your local auto parts store should carry a can of belt dressing to quiet it down.

You can also use baking soda in a pinch to quiet a squealing belt.

to be honest, i remember rushing the alternator belt crap because it was like 1am..
it was hard to get tension on it,hold the bolt on one side with a wrench and use a ratchet to tighten the bolt

on startup it is cold. after a few seconds the friction heats and softens the rubber
