water temp gauge dont work well

Hey guys iv noticed whenever I start up my 89 4runner has the 3.0 in it the water temp gauge dosent work I have to hit the gauge cluster for it to move but then it normally drops down dead, I know these engines have these issues. Dose anyone know of a aftermarket gauge I could buy that will acually work for my truck. Thanks

Have you checked that the connections and ground wires behind the cluster are tight?

Had/have the same problem on my 88. Just replaced the sender unit, and still doesn't work. From what I've read I think these gauges are just no good after a while.

Yeah. I'm about to do the same. I was just going to get a cheap one and hook it to the stock connection...I think. Never hooked one up before.

I tired once before but the adapter I had the tread into the back of the engine wasn't the right size I ended up giving the gauge away, I shouldn't have done that now I gotta buy a new one :/

Tighten the connections on the back of the cluster...usually fixes it.
