w56 to r151f swap?
The w56 in my 93 22re has been making various bearing noises for the past couple months so I've been keeping an eye out on trannys that go up for sale around me. Latest is an R151F/forward shift 23 spline tcase combo. However it doesn't come with a bell housing. Will the w56 4cyl bell housing bolt on to this tranny? Any other issues I might run into?

You'll need the R151F bell housing as that i the part that adapts the R-series gear box to the 22R block. You'll also need a 23-spline t-case or get yours converted to 23 spline:

i did this swap with my truck not to long ago but i used the r150. you need the r 151 bellhousing and just used the standard clutch kit. i think i also used the original crossmember with the v6 tranny mounts. other than that the slave cylinder bolts right up and the throw out bearing and arm work aswell. its a fun swap and man is it worth it, im going to swap a r151 into my 83 later this week.

And also make sure you get the shifter, or at least the shifter base plate for the R151F transmission, since it is different than the one on the W56. As I understand it, the shifter location on the gear box is a little bit different, so you may also need to change the hole in the floor to accommodate the shifter.

I'm picking up a w56 tomorrow with transfer case. Going to put 4:7's in it and I'd like to twin stick it as well however I'm a little confused as to which forward shift tcases you can twin stick... W56's that share the shifter plate with the transfer case shifter plate can or cannot be twin sticked?

Most of the twin stick kits I have seen are for a top shift case, but there may be some that fit a forward shift case with separate shifter bases for the t-case and tranny.

Basically comes down to the fact Toyota has different shifter base plate dimensions for most every setup.
Nothing stopping you from making something custom for twin stick a case with the combined shifter base plate. I think there was a thread a few years back on the pirate4x4 forum about someone doing something like that.
Or you can convert any forward shift case into a top shift case:

The bolt pattern on the driveshaft mounting face is larger on the R151F than a W56. I used the front half of the driveshaft off of my turbo donor pickup with my regular rear half. I can't remember if the front driveshaft patterns are different.

so this means a 3.0 V6 and 20-22 R/E all have the same splines and diameter input shaft...
So one could run a V6 9 1/4" clutch disc if he had a RTE flywheel and was running non turbo...
And one can run a 9 1/4" clutch in ANY 20-22 R/E WITH AN L, W or R series trans, if he had a RTE fly wheel and pressure plate...
Std. 22RE clutch is 8 7/8" BTW...
