W55 Input shaft bearing replacement?

Can the input shaft be successfully withdrawn (and not loosing any parts, like the needle bearing at the other end) by removing the bearing cover and the two clips...for input bearing replacement? Should there be ANY slop on the input shaft (have about 2mm) or should it be close to zero?

i just redid my r150 (bad input bearing) i had pull gear box apart but once trannys out its not much more work to have it all apart and there should be hardly any play at all and i dont thimk it will slide out with shift hub still on the collar. id go ahead and do atleast a new bearing and seal kit and syncros if needed i didnt do mine and my tranny shifts fine. i paid around 280 for mine. not that hard of a job
