Hey guys, 2 questions for you.

1.
Just recently I been getting a slight vibration when accelerating and a major vibration when decelerating. Disappears when I engage the clutch.
I have a 93 4Runner w/Standard tranny. 31x10.5xR15 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.
I'm figuring my U-Joints are giving out on me, am I correct?

2.
For offroading, how do I disable the ABS brakes? I can't find the fuse to pull.

Does the vibration only appear when applying the brakes, or when letting off the gas pedal regardless or brake pressure?

Have you ever greased your propeller shaft (used a grease gun and filled the joints at the zerk fittings)?

1 Sounds like a u-joint/u-joints to me. But.... the question above needs to be answered ^


2 pull the relay under the hood in the fuse/relay box, or... (not recommended) cut the wire to the sensor atop the rear diff.

And, when parked, is there ANY play in the u joints? If so, it's shot.

+1 on greasing them

I had a similar symptom, and even "chirping" when on/off gas when mine went out.

Brakes have nothing to do with it. With or without braking the vibration is there, feels like someone is trying to shove a large stick in my gearbox.

I just recently had it serviced, ball joints, brakes/rotors all grease fittings, oil changed as well. I trust the guy that does it for me. I'm going to his garage again tomorrow and I'll ask him about the propeller shaft.

Friend of mine also suggested it may be the "Pilot release bearing"??? dunno what that is, think it's related to the clutch, but vibration disappears when the clutch is engaged, which leads me to u-joints as the drive shaft is free wheeling so to speak.

U got a pic of which fuse/relay it is? my fuse box under the hood has nothing labelled ABS.

Its most likely the u-joints.

The important part of testing them is: jacking up the rear end, placing securely on jackstands, put the vehicle in neutral, and turn/shake the driveshaft. any play = no good.... find the play (usually u-joint, or slip yoke) and replace/repair

I dont atm.... It should be labeled on the fuse/relat box cover under the hood. you sure you have abs?

well I haven't been able to get it up on a hoist yet, but i did crawl under and try yanking on the driveshaft. it didn't budge at all. but i figured it was the u-joint anyways. find out shortly.

i know i have abs and it works, little light comes on every winter when it gets below -40C stating they're not working, it (sensor or part) freezes up at that temp. in the summer when it rains, my front brakes love to goto the floor when braking becuz of the abs.
