hi everyone this is my first post on this site and i am hoping that i can get some advice on working on my 1995 4runner sequoia. im a 1st year GM automotive apprentice and have limited experience and information on working on my vehicle. now my first question do i have to take my intake off to get at my driver side cover, it seems like i dont but i dont wanna run into problems by taking short cuts.. and my second question is whether i need to use sealer on my gasket and if so all the way around or just in the corners any help would be greatly appriciated im still learning this trade day by day.

Grab a copy of the FSM (Factory Service Manual) from the link in my sig.
There are valve cover leak repair or head gasket repair threads around here that will help a lot. No sealer all the way around....just in the spots specified in the FSM.

rworegon - I have read up a bunch on this as I have my covers off and don't want them to leak when I put them back on. Sounds like a lot of folks who have put a layer of hi-temp RTV (Black stuff) on both the head and cover side of the gasket (thoroughly cleaning off any oil), and let it dry/set for 24+ hours WITHOUT running the engine seem to have good luck with not having the persistent leaks that plague this engine.

Have you had success with just RTV in the spots the FSM indicates? If so, please share your tips.

Not RTV, but Toyota's FIPG (form in place gasket) material. I only placed it in the specified corners when I did my rebuild 50,000 miles ago & still no leaks. DO NOT OVERTORQUE THE VALVE COVER BOLTS!!!! They are only supposed to be in the neighborhood of 15 INCH LBS of torque, IIRC.
