Valve Body and o2 Sensor

Hi Guys

Just quick question on 1992 4Runner running 3 liter 3VZ E engine.

What is a valve body? what does it do? where can I buy it.
Same with O2 sensors.. what do they do? how many do I need? and where can I buy them?

Regards
Sajid

No sure on the valve body, perhaps you mean throttle body? If so, it controls the flow of air into the engine. See the tech. articles bleow for more information:

O2 sensor measures the exhaust gas contents and helps control the fuel/air mixture. Usually need 1 or 2 of them:

4Crawler: thanks for the quick reply.

You are right, its probably throttle body, because right now the shifting is very uneven in low range/ speeds.

by the way Is there something called gear valve body ?

Might be referring to the hydraulic valve body on the transmission then. That is what controls some of the shifting functions:

What is the problem(s) with the transmission shifting?
Have you checked the fluid level and / or changed the fluid and filter?
Also, if the engine power is down for some reason, that can affect when and how the transmission shifts.

I think fluid levels are ok.

The problem in shifting is that it seems to shift unevenly or quickly, this happens when i am accelerate from stand still position. Once the speed is slightly over 10 to 15 miles per hour, the shifting seems normal.

Also in idle at times there is some kind of a very mild jerk.

No clue, never had an automatic. Try: http://www.toyotadiy.com/ or your local Toyota parts dealer.

It's simply called the valve body.
Is is highly unlike that the valve body requires replacement.
You need to take the vehicle to a transmission shop and have
them diagnose the problem. Could be line pressure. Could be
one of more of the shift solenoids. Could be the TV (kickdown)
cable requires adjustment. Could be a lot of things, but the valve
body itself being bad and requiring replacement is a very, very
low probability.
