V6 Brake swap

What parts are needed off a V6 to upgrade my brakes? or is there a better opinion? I am planning on getting a T100 brake master and booster this weekend. I can pick up what I need then.

Only if yours are shot. The v6 caliper grip them just fine. Get a quality set of pads too. No reason to go through the hassle of swapping all the parts just to throw some crap pads on there.

think you need the master cylinder, caliper, and pads. the rotors, and brake lines are the same. but you could upgrade to some SS extensions while you're there if you decide to lift it someday.

Pads are the same. All you need to do the conversion is the master cylinder and calipers.

www.rotorpros.com makes excellent crossdrilled/slotted rotors at a good price.

They also sell some heavy duty pads that are OUTSTANDING. Best I've ever used. Can't recall the name...

If you are getting these out of a parts/donor truck, do not install the spacer that is on the t-100 booster, it is not needed and you will have to take the whole damn thing back apart to remove it (was not happy when I figured that out).

Otherwise, the brake lines all work, you do need to slightly tweak a couple of lines at the MC to get them to line up as the distribution block winds up in a slightly different spot.

You will need to splice the wires that come out of the T-100 MC to your current brake warning light (2 wires, easy). You will also need to trim the shields on the rotors to accommodate the larger V6 calipers.

Pretty easy swap overall and well worth the effort. I did mine with parts I grabbed at the junkyard during the whole cash for clunkers debacle. Master/booster came off a T-100, calipers came off a V6 4runner that had recently had a brake job (pads were almost new).

My only regret was not grabbing another setup to do my other truck when I had the chance.

The brakes on my '91 are completely shot so I'm going for the whole package (calipers/rotors/pads/lines)-Rock Auto has remanufactured T100 loaded calipers (Raybestos) for $98 each including the $10 core charge which I'll have to eat. The rotors I'll source locally to save on shipping-NAPA has them for $35 each. No plans for a lift so I'll go with stock lines. $$$ are tight and I NEED brakes now so I'm just going to do the brakes themselves and do the booster/MC later. I know I won't get the full benefit of the swap until I put those parts on, but I'm not towing yet so I'm not too worried about it.

Only reason you need to change rotors is if your gonna use t-100 calipers. Just found that out yesterday. Still unsure if the pads are the same or not, haven't looked that up yet. Pads for the t-100 are definately different though.

If your gonna do everything at once, I suggest you go with all t-100 parts.

I find you usually get a better deal if you buy loaded calipers vs. buying calipers and pads separately anyway. Might as well go that route and save a few $$$.

Clarification - OP was talking about using V6 calipers & a T100 master so all of my comments above correspond to that.

I just looked on Rock and Wagner part number ZX436 comes up for 4 cylinder & V6 Pickups as well as a 1993 T100. I then looked up a 1997 T100 and the part numbers were different. I don't know when the T100 brakes changed (I assume when they got the 3.4) but I figured I'd throw that out there.

I think '94 was the changeover (for the T100)-when I was researching this Radyota mentioned that the biggest brakes could be found on '90-'95 4Runners and '94-'98 T100s. Corax did his swap with '95 T100 parts. The link to that thread (very helpful on this topic) is here:

I'm just a FNG but maybe there should be a "how to" sticky on the swap since its so popular?

Anyone know if this would work on a straight front axle? Planning a SAS to my 86 pickup. Plan on running 33s maybe 35s.

Are the brake calipers on the T100 the same as the v6 4runners? Or am I better off doing just doing the v6 ones
