I'm going to my parents place this weekend and found one near there place. Just curious how far you guys think it could make it.

Wondering how far you guys have driven them.

well depends how bad the leak is. I drove mine a week without it overheating.

Does it chug really bad when you start it (blowing steam)? I'd say NO; tow it.

If not, you'd probably be ok driving it there. I put 2000 miles on a blowing HG before it finally caved.

When mine went, I barely made it 2 miles before it started to overheat. Depends on how bad the HG is. Mine failed so bad the engine was hydrolocked when I tried to restart it after letting it sit to cool for half an hour.

If you drive it, you ultimately risk warping the head. Is your intention to get an engine near your parents place and scrap the old one? There are a couple snake oil products that "fix headgaskets" that you might try.

as stated above, all depends on how bad it is. The moment it gives a sign of overheating, shut her off and tow her.

I would not risk driving just for the fact that you could cause further damage, by warping the heads or even locking the motor up. I just bought a 93 runner 3.0 with a bad HG and it started to overheat in three minutes, on top of having coolant in the oil and oil in the radiator and it was white smoke for miles looked as of someone started the whole truck on fire and it was leaking from the valve cover and pouring white smoke from there as well. My opinion dont drive it.
