I finally did a little mud action with my 1st 4runner. It has been re-geared in the rear to 5.29's fitted with e-locker and I installed a used 5.29 IFS diff. This was the first time I really used the 4 wheel and the car feels really weird. When engaged in wheel, it feels like the wheels are turning differently making the steering wheel go left to right when going straight (this was going down a dirt hill, could be a bumpy one causing this?)

The transmission area or transfer case makes a funny rubbing sound from shifter area inside the cab after disengaging out of 4x4 and back to 4x2.

Could the front gears be a different ratio than 5.29 (rear has 5.29's professionally installed), making this weird feeling? The front diff I bought was used and was told it was 5.29?

Forgot to add I just added a new OME Steering Stabilizer. The front has a trail disaster IFS lift kit and rear has 63" Chevy's with 3" shackles.

Forgot to add that the front is open. The rear e-locker was not engaged. Could low fluid in the front diff cause this?

Sounds like different gears to me, had the same thing happen (was told it was different ratio than it was) and had similar symptoms.

almost sounds like bump steer but your still ifs....

sounds silly to ask this, but did you regear both axles?

Do the tires slip and tear up the ground going straight?And BTW IFS can bump steer.I think you have diff gears front and rear.That needs to be checked before you BUST something!

if so, have you checked the tires for out-of-round or the brake discs for warpage?

I was afraid that the gears are different ratios. The front diff was purchased used and was told they are 5.29's. The rear diff had professionally re-geared to 5.29's. What is the easiest way to check the the front is indeed 5.29? I have a feeling it is not...

When in 4WD the wheels feel like they are skipping and going different directions. With also the feeling of digging into the dirt.

doesn't really answer the question. you said your steering wheel wobbled side to side in the thread I mentioned above, and now your truck feels like it's pulling side to side in this thread.
So, did you check your wheel bearings, brake discs, and tires like was mentioned in the other thread, before you did the gears?
Otherwise, all I see is a problem that was already there, amplified by new gears. I hate to sound argumentative, but what you're explaining was already in your truck weeks ago, and you had suggestions back then to help fix it.
Using 4wd may exaggerate those pre-existing conditions.

I've bought 3 diffs, and one of them was not what it was advertised as. Counting the teeth is important.

If you turn the front wheel and count turns of the drive shaft you can verify the ratio.

I had an issues similar to this on my old '89 and it was UCA bushings. When the wheels pulled they moved forward which screws with the toe and can cause a lurching when you are on and off the pedal.

Actually, bad idler bushings might also cause this. See if there is play in the arm?
