underbelly skid idea

From MUD http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wa...skidplate.html

Its for an FJ62, but the idea is interesting. Aside from bending that 1/4" and providing you can weld, building these wouldn't be tough. Not so sure about the strength of tapping into the frame- I would personally like to use a captive nut welded on the inside (but that can't be done without cutting the frame in half).

Mounting is pretty simple, I just tapped existing holes in the bottom of the frame for 7/16-20 bolts (I had the bolts on hand and they will come out with a 16mm socket)

Now I don't fear for my transfer case or tranny in the rocks

If you want to see more pictures of the tranny skidplate look at this thread "FJ62 Tranny Skidplate" Sorry I haven't figured out how to attach a thread to a new thread yet

All thats left is a small plate to protect the transfer case vacuum shift mechanism maybe next weekend...

Still a few things to do to it but it is done for the most part, still needs paint and maybe some vent holes. I also want to be absolutely certain the hoop under the driveshaft misses at full droop. Which it should do (at least it did in the mock up stage)but it's freezing right now and almost dark so that will have to wait for later.

you could do a nut on the inside of the frame - drill a hole the same size as the o.d. of the nut you want to use, then hold it in place with a bolt and weld all around it to seal it in. a little grinding and you'd be set. just don't hit the bolt with the arc!
