ujoint replace
My 87 has been squealing, I have greased the circs several times, the front joint on the "big" driveshaft keeps throwing the grease back out, I am going to change it, would like some help, I will mark the shaft and the mating surface before I remove it, not sure of how to go about it, I did it years ago, I remember using a large socket and a couple blocks of steel, good advice would be appreciated.

You can use two sockets one a little smaller than the ujoint and one a little larger than the bearing cap. Although most auto parts stores rent a C-clamp type tool which makes it alot easier.

thanks wyo, it is sounding like the ujoint, I will grease the circs, it sounds better for about a day, then it starts squealing again, I look and it has thrown the grease, the circ is fine, is this what ujoints do when they fail(throw the grease)? I havent checked for play, how do I do that? Do I block the tires put in nuetral and wiggle the shaft?

Thanks Brian, sounds like the tool may be worth buying, I would like to try the socket method, was hoping to find a thread where someone did the repair and posted picks, maybe I will post some of my repair.
