As in making it a high pinion diff? I don't think it will work just for the simple fact the bolt holes will not line up.

The gears in theory would then have to be reverse cut, like in any high pinion third.

If you flip a standard diff upside down it will run backwards.

It is commonly done by the comp guys when they build rear engine rigs (front engine, diffs standard = driving forward. Point engine backwards, everything runs in reverse, so you flip the diffs to get them to run forward). There needs to be some work done to help the pinion bearings oil properly, but it isn't too bad.

something similar to these setups. http://youtu.be/4A98SJg-iuc , i picked up another rolling frame 4.10's no cab,engine,tranny case. instead of a crawler im thinking a full out pane powered 22re trail assault vehicle. btw these guys are on private owned land you tree hugging hippies.

Those are 2.5 ton Rockwell "Top Loaders"

It woudant be worth the effort to get a toyota axle to work like that, if its even possible.



Notice how the pinion is still on the side? They are designed to work that way.

yep like that. shoulda have been clearer in the first post. i doubt the 22re has enough power to get fast enough for 2.5 ton axles. im just throwing out idea's before i start building a new trail rig

Sweet video...not sure what it has to do with your question about flipping the diffs, though. Unless you mean like the one that has the pinion brake setup, in which case that's a Rockwell and designed to run that way.
Also don't really know how a propane powered RE is gonna assault a trail anywhere near how one of those rigs does, but I'm no propane or RE expert.

yes i was talking about the rockwell setup. im having my doubts about the idea of a 22re powered assault vehicle but i'll figure it out sometime.
