i got a 93 4wd pickup that won't start after a fuel filter and pump replacement. i know very little about cars so when i did a search, i understand less than half of the mechanic talks. anyways one day i was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden my engine just shuts off so i got it towed home and have a friend looked at it and he said everything seems fine it could be my fuel filter and pump. he said before i install the filter and pump go by a bottle of engine starter and spray it in the intake to see if it starts up and it did. so since what he said seems like he knows what he's doing so i go ahead and install the pump and filter. got the pump and filter installed today but no start unless i spray some engine start in there but it only lasted for a few seconds. can anybody tell me what i'm doing wrong?

Seems like fuel isn't getting to your engine. That's pretty much all i can say..

Is it the 3.0 or 2.4?
I'm unfamiliar with the 3.0, but sounds like your not getting fuel to your engine...

It could be the injectors not firing or your fuel pump not turning on... You need to check if you're getting fuel pressure...usually the easiest place to do that is the cold start injector.

If you have fuel pressure then I'd guess the injectors aren't firing...could be wiring, ecu, etc...

Check that the pump is running. Jumper FP to B+ on the diagnostic connector (key-on); you should be able to hear the pump. If you can hear it, try to start engine. If it starts and runs, you have a problem in the VAF/COR circuit.

(Don't drive around with the jumper in. If you get in a collision that breaks a fuel line, the pump will keep running, soaking you in gasoline ....)

When you installed the new pump all the wiring connections were clean and tight .

Did you ever check to see if your old pump had failed before installing the new one??

No I didn't but I did put my ears by the gas filler hole to listen and didn't hear anything

i don't hear my pump running nor did the car start so what should i do next?

Start by checking that you have 12v to ground (key-on) at the B+ terminal (if not, it could be the EFI fuse, EFI Main relay, or somewhere in between). Next, check for "low" resistance to ground at the FP terminal. If more than, oh, 25 ohms you 've got a problem in the wiring to the fuel pump (or a dead pump, but you say it's new).

i checked the B+ terminal to ground its at 6v and FP is under 25 ohms but my truck been sitting for awhile so i just charged the battery and will retest again just to make sure.
