Truck won't start
I've had this reoccurring problem for a couple months now...and it finally won't start.
Here is what it does...turn the key and click. Turn the key again and click. Might do this several times then it will start. Now all it does is click.
I've cleaned the battery connections millions of times now. I've banged on the starter. I've replaced the ground wire from the battery to the block.
The battery has 12.6v so I know its good.
The only thing I can think it could be is a faulty ignition?
Does that sound right? Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Okay...it just started. I had to keep my foot to the floor to start it...then keep my foot on the gas to keep it idling until it smoothed out and a bunch of smoke shot out the exhaust. lol. Whatever Toyota.

BTW, 12.65 volts is kinda weak. Mine won't start at less than 12.
and all the smoke that came out was probably cause the motor was flooded, and you were burning off carbon. every time you turn the key on and off, the little noise you hear before the 'click' is the fuel pump dumping fuel down the intake.
Replace the starter unit and you'll be fine : )

The clicking is very indicative of worn starter solenoid contacts:

X2 here. I bought an OEM replacement for 100$ when mine started this same crap because I wasn't confident that I could replace the contacts. Lesson learned, now I have an original starter out of an 88 sitting on the shelf and as soon as I get the contacts installed I'm pulling the old one out and using it as a trail spare. The original starters on our rigs will last forever, the contacts only make to about 200,000 miles though....... poor design on the contacts there Toyota...... poor design indeed. *laugh*
