truck will sputter and die

ok so as you can find out from my other threads i have been replacing the 22re in my 4runner with another 22re and i keep having problems, it will start now but the rpms only sit at like 300RPM and then the truck will sputter and die, if you give it gas it might reach 4000RPM but that is as high as it will go and it takes a good 25 seconds to get there, but if you just give it a little gas so it sits and like 1200RPM it will sit there but then the check engine light will come on and it will just die. when ever it wouldnt start i just replaced the distributor and it ran kinda but now i need plug wires, the egr is removed but im yet to plug it so there might be a vacuum leak. and today when i was just starting it and trying to get it to warm up it just kinda died completely like i was just letting it sit at like 1500RPM and then the whole engine just died no sputtering no nothing just stopped. any one got any ideas on what my problem is im begining to think its the TOYOTA on the grill but i REALLY dont want that to be the problem.

the truck wont run with the egr removed and not blocked off. make or buy some plate to block it or use some large duct tape strips to block the two hole off, big enough that they wont get sucked in!!! some 4" strips should do it, and make sure the hold on

it wont run with any holes......holes=vacuum leaks. and if the egr assambly fell off, there would be 2 holes....one in the head (rear passenger side) and one at the back of the intake

the header would be on the drivers side. and you sure you know what the egr valve is and where its located? it goes from the head to the rear of the intake manifold

Those ports on the exhaust manifold are actually for the PAIR system.

The EGR goes from the head to the rear of the intake plenum.

EGR= Exhaust Gas Recirculation, it wraps around and attaches to some stuff which leads to the EGR but is gone so there are 4 like 1/2 inch holes in the manifoldthat shoot flames and make it EXTREAMLY loud. what is a PAIR?? ugh i hate EFI I WANT A CARB!!!!!!!!!!!!! so much easyer.

PAIR- Pulse Air Injection Reaction. You know that small tube that goes from the airbox and wraps around to under the intake manifold? Thats part of this system. Air goes through this tube to the AS Reed Valve, then snakes around behind the engine through that copper looking tube that attaches to the top of the ex. manifold. . The Venturi effect of the exhaust gases pull clean air into the exhaust, speeding up oxidation in the cat and the rest of the exhaust.

Yes I'm very sure. Of course if there is nothing covering the ports, exhaust gas will be shooting out!

well obviously it won't pass emissions. The exhaust might get hotter than what it normally does so you will probably damage the O2 sensor. Your O2 sensor will probably read a rich condition, which will tell the ECU to trim the amount of fuel, so you'll probably feel a loss of power. Your cat will probably get fouled up. Also, the engine will probably run a little hotter without the EGR stuff.

Not sure why you'd remove the EGR valve... if you don't want the EGR to work, pull and plug the vacuum line off of it and *poof*... no EGR... and no exhaust or vacuum leaks to worry about plugging.
Just my dime's worth (used to be 2 cents but the increased cost of living caused me to raise the price, that and the increases in tobacco taxes)....
