Truck not starting. Solenoid issue?
The truck is a 86 22re 4x4
I went to the store and after I came out my truck wouldn't start. Not a click, turnover, or anything. Checked my battery and it's putting out 12.8 volts, so its good. I compression start it and it runs/drives fine. Previous to this there was never an issue.
I'm thinking it may be the starter solenoid, could this be?

I still haven't found anything. It happens every now and then. I'm able to compression start it, so I'm still thinking its an ignition issue. Maybe main ignition relay or starter relay?

When I turn the key, nothing happens. No click or anything. And twitching the key doesn't help either. But I have been driving it all week and it's worked fine. Just every now and then it will do this

mines been taking a while to start, wont click or anything. 90 percent of the time its fine, but sometimes ill have to hold the key for 5-10 seconds before itll start. No idea why, will be switching starters tomorrow to see if it cures it.

If its starting at all, its probably not your starter that is the issue. I would try your starter or ignition relay first

Looks to be located in driver's side kick panel. Scroll down here and you should find it.

There's also other info in that thread that may be useful to you. And when searching for info, use google. Put in your year, engine type, 4runner/truck, and what you're looking for. You'll get 4-5 sites pop up that contain solid sensible information. This is one of them. That's how I found myself here.

Here's another thing to try if you have the infamous "click but no start" issue. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/starter/
It's all out there. Test it this way...

My starter won't click either but the dash lites up.
Not a click here either. But I think it is a contact or a relay in the fuse block and will get in the hood later and tap on it too. I am tracing the wires and found the starter on passenger side, under the firewall by the tranee and learned the solenoid is part/attached to it and tucked in there and learned you take the wheel and a splash guard panel off or go from the front with 24" extension. There was a repair link in here with pics. I don't look forward to replacing the starter or solenoid..... they are pricy but will if I need to. I get it ready to sell here in FLORIDA and need to start it first. It is just over 100 K and if I can learn enough and tune it, I'll keep it if I can keep up with you guys here. Thanks all!
