I have a 1st gen 4runner with the 22re
Yesterday I decided to do the battery and intake swap (for various reasons).
In the process I ended up cutting the wires (i know... i know...)
I spliced them back together, adding about an extra foot of higher gauge wire (to help offset any distance problem, which there shouldn't have been...)
The truck starts, runs for a second, the dies out.
If I give it gas it runs great, but at idle it dies.
I figure it's something with my wiring, but I'm not sure what to do. Any ideas on this?

So it idled fine before this? If so you didn't get something hooked up right.

It seems it always works fine before I get under the hood, then I break something and it takes me a week to figure out how simple it is.

Yes, it was idling fine yesterday. I'm going to run out and re-check to make sure I matched the wires up right, but I'm 95% sure I did...

All the wires are matches up right
One other thing I had noticed, if i start it and run over to the afm and hold the door open a little it will idle fine, but as soon as I let it go it will start to shudder and die out.

I had a similar problem, I would suggest checking the ground wires.

on the afm? it's the white one, right?

I noticed a connection that didn't look too good, so I tugged it and it cam out, cut, and twisted the wires together for a quick test... it idled longer, but still eventually died out
Maybe the but splices i used are causing a problem?

Butt splices stink. The right way to do it is with some solder and heat shrink

I know... I just had some extra but splices and I'm almost out of solder
excuses, excuses, i know, I was just trying to get it to work
here i go to solder!

I soldered all but one connection (that's when I dropped on 1" of solder somewhere in the engine) and it seems bit by bit it's running better... but it's still not right
I'm going to try and find that piece of solder, but if that doesn't do it, any other ideas?

Soldered everything.
I got it running... kind of, but not because of the soldering...
I poped open the AFM and fiddled with the gear, turned it up more notches than I want to think about. I have it set to a high idle and its running rich. I feel a lot more power, but I'd rather have the fuel economy that I used to have.
Not exactly the way I want it, but it's running
So any other ideas that will let me turn the afm & idle down?
