Trouble with my 87 4Runner

Man, where to start...so i think that im having timing chain slap(87 4runner 22re/auto trans), but im not sure. it sounds like a metal card or something in the spokes of a bike wheel. i noticed it this morning when it sounded like a diesel. after i got home from work it had that crazy ticking sound. however, im not really sure...i drove it up to the store tonight, and it felt like it couldnt find or keep a gear. it's like i started off in 3rd every time or something. then it would down shift really high to around 3500-4k rpm, then upshift, but still wouldnt be really moving anywhere. it wouldnt even climb up my driveway very well, and was uber sluggish(again, like i was in 4th gear or so), and almost died on me at a red light. the card in bike spoke sound got worse too, along with the addition of what sounds like almost a grinding or spinning/scraping noise. it sounds like its coming from the front of the engine in the cab, but behind the engine from outside the truck. it shifts from park to reverse to drive, low, etc. fine though. it's really worrying me...i gotta get to work, ya know! any ideas guys? i really need to see whats up! anyone in the mobile(AL) area? missing work=no money=cant fix truck=cant get to work=etc.!!!!

Coming from the rear of the engine... probably the torque converter.
I'd drain the fluid / pull the trans pan and check for any signs of metallic anything.

Have you ever seen that episode of the family guy? lol

edit: sorry to the OP that wasn't any help. sounds pretty serious, time to take the valve cover off and go from there.

The noise could be the torque converter bolts backing out and hitting the block.

Changed your pointless title to something useful. A title stating the problem will help draw more folks who might can actually help rather than just titling the post "HELP".
Merged two identical threads started with same pointless title.
Moved thread to forum for 87 4Runners.

Good luck with your problems.
