tricks to getting the front diff back on

I'm having trouble getting it up. The diff, that is. Any tricks to this process? I am using a floor jack.

Jack it up and get the front bolt through the hinge...

no real tricks I can think of. Maybe have a friend help? Little extra muscle and then you can align it (might need a BFH) to get it into that front hinge. Get one bolt in somewhere should be able to man handle it into place

Yes. Get that front bolt in, so you can pivot it into place. We had some trouble keeping the cv joints to stay out of the way. I would try and tie them back to give you the space.

It would be alot easier with another set of hands though..

Try bolting the diff to the front cross member first, then getting it on the jack and jacking it up that way. You will have more wiggle room.

X4 on getting the front bolt in there first. Then you can use a floor jack to lift the tail section up. Get one of the "hanger" bolts started and you're golden from that point on.

I had trouble with mine, its kind of hard for one person. I ended up getting my wife to help. I lifted it into position with the floor jack and had her stick a large punch through the front bolt hole. Use a punch instead of the bolt for the front mount hole, that way you don't have to line it up so precise initially.

when I did mine, I took the front crossmember out. so putting it back in (only using the spare tire jack) I jacked up one side and got one inner CV attached with 2 nuts, switched over to the other other side and did the same thing, lifted up and wedged a spare chunk of 2x4 under the pinion flange, put in the front cross member hinge bolt and jacked that up into position to bolt it back on, lifted the rear and got the last 2 mount bolts started . . . by myself, on my back it the gravel driveway - it's easier with an extra set of hands
