transmission will not separate from engine!!!
HI i am trying my first engine swap on a 1992 22RE 5 speed, and everything was going well, tagging and bagging bits and pieces, until it was time to remove the engine. everything is removed, ie starter, all bolts (even one behind clutch release, i think that was the clutch release, and the 2 on top of the bell housing), and all electrical connections. car is in neutral with parking brake on. i really don"t know what to do anymore with this thing. I have never removed a transmission before either, but i have a donor vehicle (a 1994 22re), and the transmission is good on that one, so i might just pull that and swap, but if i can't separate the 2 how can i do anything? I need help and i know it is probably something stupid, but i am new and i need the help. thanks in advance.

Thanks but i have already searched a lot. the first thing i did before i started was read all the threads i could find about the engine removal and transmission swaps so i would be ready. i got past some of the tricky things they mentioned in the writeups, but now that it is down to the "easy" part of engine removal it won't budge.

and if i decide to replace the transmission do i have to worry about the lining up of drive shafts? i already match-marked them just incase i was going to remove the transmission, but if i swap the tranny what is the point of having the alignment marks, and i guess on that note, what is the point of making sure they are marked and realigned in the first place?

Do you have it hooked to a picker yet? When I did my swap the engine and transmission separated on their own once I attached the picker to it and took out the bolts holding them together. Make sure your tranny is supported.

if you got all the bolts out.......... and the moter supported / tranny supported
you can always step on the clutch this will seperate them
BUT BE WARNED it willl blow out you SLAVE Clyinder
and need 2 be preplaced but most likely your fluid is black and it's time 2 flush it.
I take it your gona put a new clutch in while you have it apart...............
I had the same problem
but i had new HD marlin clutch / master / slave ready /planed

If you are absolutely sure all the bolts have been removed, you could try putting a ratchet strap from the tranny to the rear axle and start cranking. I have had to do that before.
I believe the match marks for the drive shafts are just to keep the yokes aligned. Doesn't have anything to do with the transmission... I don't think.

Thanks for all the responses. I just used a hammer and a pry bar. i decided to replace both, so i figured it didn't matter what got messed up. There is a 3 inch hole in the block so who cares if that gets busted. Thanks for the quick responses and yes i am replacing the clutch. i was looking at the marlin kits, but i don't have time to wait for shipping (should have thought ahead) any suggestions of what to get from some place like NAPA or Schucks? also any brands to stay clear of would be nice. thanks again.
