Transmission stuck in fourth gear
I have a 92 toyota pickup 4x4 5 speed.Iwas driving down the road and it would not come out of gear.Is there any way to get it out of gear without hauling the tranny out? If not then What years would fit on it?I phoned Toyota and they said only very spacific ones would fit from like 90 to 93.I talked to another person who sold toyota parts and he said they are all the same between 89 and 95.

my tranny problems
its got lots of clutch fluid.I have tried shifting while its running, when its off, rolled it back, 4x4 in neutral and tried it running and not.Yes fourth gear did make a contact sound every once and a while not a full grind but a "chirp"or "ting".It was hard to get it out of gear the last time it was in fourth about 5 min before it got stuck that way.

sound like the syncro might be stuck. or maybe even a broken shifter seat. try pulling up on the stick while tryng to get it out of gear. does the stick feel like its where it should be or down further? you might try draining the fluid and see if any metal comes out it might be time for a rebuilt. I'm no expert when it comes to trannys. you might try reading through the FSM it might help.

the shifter seat might have broken. you should get access to the top of the trans and remove the shifter. thats where i would start. if the seat broke the shifter might just be jammed.

Only three things I can think of.
1) Clutch fluid, but you said that it is fine.
2) Since you mentioned that it will pull up a little then the shifter seat bushing and/or the little bushing on the bottom of the shifter may have finally busted. Both are easy fixes.
3) Fluid in the tranny. It might be time to drain and refill, I had this happen on a Scout years ago and it turns out the fluid hadn't been changed since 1977, looked like strawberry jelly coming out of there. Be sure and check the fluid for metal flakes.
