I know its been asked before but cant find a definitive answer.

My transmission doesn't want to shift into over drive untill I am a long way down the road. And its getting worse. I've changed the thermostat with no improvement. I changed the coolant temperature sender ( I know it goes to the temp gauge). I dont really know where else to look.

Suggestions please.

Not sure if yours is a A340F like mine is?

In any rate I would check the shift solenoids or the valve body.
I just had a situation with my auto 22re where it didn't want to move at all whether or not I had it in drive or reverse. I just replaced the shift solenoids yesterday and it seems to be working just fine. Time will tell though.

thanks for the reply. Seems to be related to engine warm-up. Worse on cold days better on warm days. When the engine is warm no problem. Even still when the temperature gauge shows the engine is warm in the morning it takes a while (a mile or two) before it shifts into OD.

The coolant temp sender (that displays the output on the instrument cluster), and the coolant temp sensor (that controls the transmission lockup), are two different things. Even though the sender for the guage is working correctly, it doesn't mean that the coolant temperature sensor is working correctly.

is this hard to do?

Do I need to remove the pan cover. Hope not I had to retap a few holes and its not leaking, and I wanna leave it like that.

Maybe normal for a 275,000 mile xmission, but it hasn't always done this.

Mines a manual but I would venture a guess that the O.D. system is vacuum actuated somewhere along the line?

No it's not.
It's an electronically controlled transmission and, by design, will not shift up into OD until it's up to operating temperature.
