transmission issues help plz

hey so im having some issues with my 5 speed trany in my 88 pick up 4X4 SR5 it seem after a long trip when i come to a stop and try and put it back in gear it will not let me put it in to gear and will not let me put it in to 2nd 3rd 4th or 5th and you can hear it clunking around and will almost push the truck back and forth until it finally engages, but shifts so smoothly and makes no noise when im driving what could be the issue?
thanks

Check your master and slave cylinders for leakage. Master is next to the brake booster and Slave is on right side where engine meet transmission.

Check the clutch ^ like he said.

You're transmission should be fine "with those symptons you described".

That's what I meant- check there's fluid in the clutch cylinder. and bleed it too.

Check for broken clutch pedal bracket. you'll have to get under the dash with a light & look while you (or someone else) depresses the clutch.

since you just replaced, how's your fluid level? has it dropped? has this shift issue been around since the clutch job, or did it shift great right after install?

typically, not going into gear at a stop, but going into gear easily while rolling, is indicator of hydraulic issue. do a really thorough re-bleed of the clutch slave cyl. i mean, really thorough. of course, check for obvious leakage before you start.

then like the guys said before, check the travel at the pedal, confirm the rod is actuating fully, and a pedal bracket crack hasn't occurred.

then i'd suspect a failed throwout bearing if you used discount parts on that last replacement. only after that i'd start wondering about the trans itself.

good luck!

any one who lives in victoria BC Canada dont go to bullfrog transmition. theyll ripe you off just like they did to me. i should have put 2 and 2 together when some radom came up to me pissed off and asked if they did trany work for me then stormed in to the office.
