I was out wheeling the 4runner (94 3.0) other weekend and while pulling a friend out i think the tranny took a beating. After getting home from the woods the 4runner sat in the driveway for a little less than a week. I drove her a couple days ago and my reverse was acting up, as in very bumpy when giving gas then it would feel like it would catch and then go. Then today i was in drive and the motor would just rev up and the power wasn't going to the wheels, like i was just rolling down a hill. Then finally all the sudden it was like the tranny just caught and i had power and it hasn't happened since. Is my transmission going bad? And its an automatic stock tranny. Any ideas?

yep its going out what i would do is pull the trans pan and check to see if you have any clutch fragments. when mine went out it sounds just like yours but i just lost reverse. i pulled my pan and it had the clutch fragments all in the pan and the fluid was burnt so i flushed the pan and replaced the filter and it worked a bit better but still gone. if i was you id start looking around for a trans

Ya not what i wanted to hear but its what i was thinking, how many people have done trans swap? was it hard?
