Tranny Issues, Did I Over Fill It?
So checked the didstick and seemed to be a quart low on the stick. Wife says tranny acting funny lately, so dropped a quart and the very next morning she would not shift untill in warmed up a little. then on my way to the desert, the A/T Temp light came on and stayed on for an hour. then I noticed the smell of burnt oil, stopped the truck, got out to take a peak, she was dripping tranny oil and had no idea where it was comming from. was it boiling over and made its way out the didstick tube where they meet? Later that day I drained about half quart or so and seemed to act a little better. should I change the tranny fluit again? 2nd time in the last 3K milkes. I was on a 6% grade at 55mph maybe 3Krpm. loaded with maybe 300lbs more than usuall. did I overfill it originally?

Overfilling will cause excessive pressure and oil will blow out where it can. Hopefully you didn't blow out any seals. There should be a "fill bolt" on the side of the transmission about halfway up. when parked on level ground you should not fill above this hole.
If you're on level ground open this side "fill hole"
if you're overfilled oil will come out. Let it drain until it stops.

I know this is true of the manual transmissions. Still hunting for an R150 for my 4runner. If only other things would quit needing attention

Is this true with an automatic transmission? I thought it was filled through the dipstick and checked with the dipstick. Otherwise I see no reason for the dipstick.

If it smells burned on the stick, it'll smell just as burned on your hand, only you'll have hot ATF on your hand...

He told me this when I told him my fluid smelled burned.
The stick gets hotter than the fluid apparently.

Have you checked your turbo encabulator? This short video will explain what the turbo encabulator does, and it has troubleshooting instructions toward the end.

If it smells burnt on the stick it will smell the same on your hand, as far as I know steel doesn't absorb odors, it's the fluid that smells not the stick, even though the Wizard said it ain't so.

The only (and most annoying) auto trans I've ever seen that didn't seem to have a dip stick was my ex girls Cavalier... Couldn't find one for the life of me.
