Tps Woes.........NEED HELP PLEASE.

Ok so first off let me start by saying I have searched many forums and have tons of print outs. I am going with 4crawler's directions. I still have a few questions about my tps.

Here's the backstory. The truck took on some unexpected water on the trailsone day and well it needed a rebuild. Two weeks later and one engine builder master rebuild and I have it all back together. Fast forward to the last week or so of trying to trouble shoot a bad idle and shoty throttle response.

In what order to I do the following:
Set base timing with the jumper in place? I assume first?
I cant figure out what I am doing wrong with the tps sensor. I set it to 20k on my meter. I turn it cw/ccw untill it is open/infinite. Now do I go untill i cant turn the tps anymore (end of resistive strip to read 2.3k)? I can't get a reading of 2.3. Am I just reading to much into this and not seeing something?Idk any help or ideas would be great because we are getting a hell of a lot of snow and my truck runs like crap!

I have a new tps. I have a new afm. Vacuum lines all checked out ok buy 3 sets of eyes. Egr seems to be doing good.

Are you on the correct two terminals of the TPS.???? IDL and E2?

If so, insert the feeler guage (.85mm) between the stop screw and throttle lever. Move the the TPS CW/CCW until the meter deflects. It shoud flip between infinite and 2.3k or less. Set the screw when you reach infinite. Then, insert the .57mm gauge and it should read 2.3k or less.

If you can't find where the meter will deflect, something is not right.

when i am like 5% on the gas you can hear it braken up but once it hits 1500rpms it goes away

with the engine running, short the te1/e1 terminals
loosen the tps to the point where you can just turn it by tapping on it lightly with your finger tip. it should move almost imperceptibly.
move the top of the tps towards the radiator until the engine speed suddenly changes. if it doesn't, rotate it the other direction until it jumps, then very carefully tap it back towards the radiator until that one tap makes the idle change.
lock it down. should be done.

then... with the TPS adjusted, short the terminals again and shoot the timing and adjust it to factory spec, keeping an eye on the idle speed. if the idle speed gets too far out- say give or take 50 rpms, adjust the idle speed screw on top of the throttle body to get the idle back down (or up) and continue adjusting the timing... repeat as necessary until both the idle speed and timing are set.

and for the record, I'm referencing a 22re. If you have a 3vze, you'll need to change my 'towards the radiator' to 'towards the right (when standing in front of the truck)'.

In the future- when the ride blows you crazy... step away.
People often make the worst decisions and let things get the better of them.
Take some time to rethink and re-group. Have a beer!

well after getting most everything set the way I like it....I have noticed a slight decrease in power. Mostly when I take off in first the truck has a hesistation up until say a little over 2000 rpm's. I am in the process of trying to figure this out.Any ideas?

check the idle speed and timing?
TPS adjustments will affect both the idle speed and timing, so make sure those are both correct.

When I set my timing with the jumper in place I did not notice a drop in idle when I took it out. I put the jumper in te1 and e1, those are the correct spots.I was fully warmed up also.

That would suggest the TPS is not adjusted properly or is failing.
Both my 88 and 91 experience a change in idle when I insert the jumper.
Taking the jumper out, on the other hand. causes the idle speed to raise about 50-100 rpms.

Well I will try and readjust it tonight. Wouldn't it throw a code 41 and or 51?(Can't remember wich one it is) Could a vaccum leak do the same thing? I have also noticed that the temp gauge is running warmer than it usualy does, its at 3/4 instead of halfway.
It is weird when I take off normally it bogs down like crazy, but if i bring the rpm's up and feather the clutch it does ok. Not like it was before the rebuild but not bad.

Re-tuned took it for a short ride. It feels better but I do have another question. The air intake is making a weird gargling noise. What could cause that.
