toyota sway bar

i bought my 90 pick up wit a pro comp stage 2 lift. but for some reason it had no sway bar! wouldnt any one know the reason for its removal? and should i replace it and what are the setbacks of its removal?

Perhaps the PO did not install the sway bar drop brackets with the lift and the bar would not fit. Or maybe he found that bar made no difference so left it off. Might see a little more body lean in turns without the bar.

I'm not lifted but I haven't run an anti-sway bar in over 6 months now. I saw little to no difference in on road handling.

Do a search you will find lots on the topic and opinions. I find that the torsion bar setup is stiff and does not require a sway bar. The first thing I do when I get a new Toy is cut it off. Rides better.

definitely... if the truck rolls without it, get new shocks

thanks everyone for the advice! i was worried that it would be negative towards my handling and ride quality. and another thing...the front differential drop kit by 4crawler...can it be used with a lifted toy? just wana correct the angle of my shafts

Not totally familiar with the exact kit you have but likely it includes the drop brackets for the front diff (and steering) to restore everything back to normal.

i have a pro comp stage 2. but i was thinking of purchasing some bj spacers and was wondering if the spacers would make my cv axle angle steeper? if i do put some spacers on my truck, would i be able to drop the transfer case with the 4crawler kit?

If you have a 2 inch front lift, then you add another 1.5" then your CVs will bind unless you drop the diff.

Off road the sway bar really limits any wheel movement. The whole body of the truck bounces around and jerks with every obstacle. Just taking off both of my sway bars let me get over obstacles that I couldn't before.

All depends on how much lift you are looking to add, if any. You can add the spacers and relax the torsion bars to result in no net lift. You would need to check for CV joint binding (at full droop) and for CV boot wear with the spacers. Not sure how your front diff is mounted with the lift, but if it still bolts to the stock frame bushings, then a diff drop is possible, unless you have the rear IFS crossmember installed as part of the lift.

well im looking to add a little lift but more importantely i would like to add a little more flexibility in my ifs. being that the bj spacers accomplish that, i plan to install them. yet as i said before, im worried that my cv angle will be steep and i would like to install the diff drop. i have a pro comp stage 2 lift and i think that there is a rear ifs crossmember installed. is that the lowest part of the ifs in the rear? and does it matter if the diff is bolted in the front? by the way thanks again for the input. im really interested in learning

Often, with the rear crossmember, you can't lower the diff the full inch. On the IFS setup, the diff pivots up front and the drop spacers lower the rear mounts:



If you are looking to install the ball joint spacers and relax the torsion bars for better flex, then you may be OK on the CVs. They will be at about the same angle they are at now, at least at normal ride height. Would be a good idea to check the CVs at full droop to see if there is any binding. If not, then they are probably fine with the lift and spacers.

NOTE: It is possible to make a lower height diff drop, about 1/2" seems to fit with the rear cross member.

Does anyone have a pic of how the sway bar is setup? I am missing the long sleeve on the long bolt. Can I source this at a hardware store?

just wondering 4crawler, is there any drawbacks to running the dif drop without a lift at all?? i plan on doing a bj spacer in the near future, but in the mean time, myu truck is eating CV boots like they're dinner...

Pretty simple, just a sleeve with a washer on each end to support the bushings. Probably get a piece of 1/8" pipe nipple and shove the bolt through the center. May need to run a drill bit down each end to clean it out to let the bolt slide through.

Not really any issue, as long as you don't have a rear cross member added in.

I have the same 4" kit and if you look close at these pics you can see I have maybe 5degree angle on my cv's and my t-bar's are set at factory setting so you may want to check your lift install to make sure everything is correct.

I am going to add the BJ spacers and I belive that it will have little to no affect on the cv's angle. Mine is a 90 4runner but it should not make much if any differance between it and the truck I.F.S. so maybe you should check and see if the p.o cranked the t-bars if so bring them back down and see if that help's your cv angle any just a thought.
