I have a new oil pump for my rebuilt 3.go that i will be installing soon.

Keep reading to pack gears full of vaseline, my question is should i
do this through the pickup tube hole?
Or is it safe to take the cover plate on the back of the pump off then
pack it in and put cover plate back on.

Is there a seal on this plate? or is it just bolted directly to pump with no seal.

Just trying to get oil pressure as quickly as possible on the new engine when its start up time.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can just feed some heavy oil into the pump before assembly.


After the pump cover is installed you can use and oiler pump can and feed some oil into the exit side of the pump through the sensor hole and it will run down into the pump while you assemble the rest.


Before starting you can turn the engine over without the sparkplugs and it turns fast enough to build pressure and keeps the stress bottom end bearings.


Suggest add coolant after plugs are in and leaving the drivers side heater hose off till it tops off, It burps better.

Thanks for the advice. I like the thick oil idea better than the Vaseline that way no dissasembly of the pump. Always worried about the Vaseline not dissolving quickly and causing some small oil paths to temporarily clog until it heated up a little.



So add coolant after oil is primed? What is the benefit of that?

The possibility of fluid (Coolant) getting into the sparkplug holes and causing problems.
Just a suggestion, Seen stupid (facepalm) accidents happen.
