Hey guys, I read on 4x4wire or something that Toyota put a variety of torsion bars in their IFS trucks and 4Runners between 86-95. Makes sense considering the variety of engines and transmissions available.

Does anyone have any information on this? It would present alot of possibilities for those looking to change spring rates with a low budget.

We were talking about that at one of our meets, saying how the v6 ifs should have stiffer tbars compared to a 4cyl.
No idea if its true or not

Yeah it would make sense... maybe we can ask folks to take measurements of their stock t-bars or get some data at a junk yard?

Curious how I was just wondering the same thing recently.....no really..I was swear.

So yeah, I got a V6 long bed PU and the torsion bars are not only shot, and need replaced regardless, they're still way too stiff(albeit they're cranked for all the lift they'll gimme). Who knows, maybe like 1-200 ft.lbs. difference in spring rate for 4cyl rigs vs. V6. Might not be alot, but any little bit might be a good thing for the money.

I got my eye on some at a junkyard nearby already. I get sweet deals from the guy...uh any way, they're on a 4cyl 87 4Runner. So they might be just about exactly what I'm looking for....if they fit!

If they do, or if they don't, I'll let ya know. Don't hold your breath, not so high on my LOP at the moment.

It would be a smart thing for Toyota to have done BUT it would cost Toyota MORE to produce 2 different types of T-bars right. So think of the logical answer, Toyota would not spend MORE money to have 2 different types, they probably have a happy medium to start with to save money and make it a usable off road suspension set-up.
