Tires, Gears, MPG?

So i am not one to keep asking the questions that so many others have asked, but i am just not finding the answer i am looking for. Hopefully someone can shed some light on what Tires with Gears and MPS's i am looking for. Im not brand new to Toyota's or 4x4, but im not even close to an expert.

I have a 1993 Toyota Pickup ext cab 4x4 with a 3.slow and a 5 speed. I am installing a 4in SAS from TG.(front and rear) All the gearing is the stock setup for now. The only thing that I have done to the engine is a little tune up with fluids, plugs, belts, filters, wires, and timing. I also have 35x12.5x15 BFG KM2s that are sitting in the garage waiting to be mounted.

I know there is a ton of people out there that say 5:29 are the best but some say 4:88. This is what im looking for:

What gears are best for the 35's that is a DD and weekend wheeler? I run the highway just about every day for maybe 20 miles.

What is everyones RPM at 65 mph with 35's and 5:29, or 4:88? ( i currently have 31x10.50x15 and at 65 my rpm is 2800-2900)

What is everyones 3.slow getting MPG wise with 35's and 5:29, 4:88?

Like i said i use this as a DD and I am on the highway just about every day. I usuall stay on pavement during the week unless i have a long lunch. I apologize for asking yet another gearing w/tires question but i just can find the straight answer im looking for. I appreciate evryones advice.

I have never had a V6 toyota. But im running stock gears with 33x12.5s. its not bad. i can do 80 on the high way and my gas mileage hasnt suffered too much. I'm probably gonna go with 4.88s when i get around to it for 35s.

On my 83 it had 5.29s with 35s and the gears were way short. 4x4 is what you need to worry about. i ran 35s on the rig with stock gears for a long time and it was fine besides the fact i couldnt use 4hi. and i got about 22 mpg with stock gears and 35s with a 22r. and when the 5.29s went in i went up maybe to 23.

For my current truck i get 19 with big tires or not. i like to keep my RPMs high because they love it so much. so around 35 mph it puts my rpms right where i want them

If my math is right then 4.88's in 5th gear @65MPH will be ABOUT 2,550 RPM's and with 5.29's it should be about 2,760 RPM's!

If you're actually getting 2,800-2,900 RPM's at 65 with 31's then you might already have 4.88 gears?

But your tach and speedo could be off considering the tires size change.

Speedo could be off but not tach.

If you wanna know what rpms you'll be running use this
http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
Now, it may be possible that your rig had 31's stock, and 4.10's stock. My vin plate says my Runner came with 4.10's and 225/75r15's, but the speedo was accurate with 31's and there's 2 different speedo gears that go in the transfer case with different gear tooth counts. Who knows, maybe that was changed on mine, but I doubt it since the 4.10 diff I pulled out still had the factory paper gasket instead of rtv that everyone else uses.

As far as mileage goes, it depends on where you'll be driving, too. My 83 had 5.29's and 33's in a mountainous area, and it only got 15 mpg after correction was factored in. Granted, my engine needed some work and had a weber set up for both barrels to open.

My Runner still has 4.10's and 33's, and the corrected math works out to just about 18 mpg in that same mountainous area. Now when I'm in Portland area again, my mileage is better cause I'm not driving up hills all the time.

Basically, my advice is to match the gears to the tires as close to stock as you can, which is 9 times out of 10 is 5.29's for 35's. the engine is designed to run well in a certain rpm range and the gears make it so the engine can live in that rpm range at most times.
